Why I Sold My Porsche GT2 RS for a 992.2 GT3

By Stuart Ellis · 24 October 2026 · 18 min video

Two RS Porsches out, one GT3 in. After owning a 991 GT3 RS and then a 991.2 GT2 RS, I've ordered a brand-new 992.2 GT3 from a blank sheet. Here's why, what I specced, and what it cost.

The verdict

The GT2 RS is savagely fast, but on the road it's almost too fast to enjoy, and with values climbing it became too precious to take on track. I missed the fizz of a naturally aspirated GT car: the 9,000rpm engine and the razor-sharp throttle. So I've gone back to a winged 992.2 GT3 with PDK, specced as a track car. Not a downgrade. A car I'll actually use.

FAQ

Why sell a GT2 RS for a GT3?

Rising values made the GT2 RS too precious to track, kilometres were hurting resale, and I missed the high-revving naturally aspirated engine. On the road the GT2 RS is almost too fast to enjoy.

Manual or PDK for a 992.2 GT3?

For a dedicated track car I chose PDK because it's faster. For a road car I'd pick the manual.

Is the Clubsport package free in Australia?

Yes. Once you option the lightweight bucket seats, the Clubsport package (half cage, six-point harness and extinguisher) is a no-cost option in Australia.

How long does a new GT3 take to arrive?

Mine was ordered in January, built in April and delivered roughly eight months after ordering.

A new performance car review roughly once a month. Get each one in your inbox the day it goes live.
